Whether from the deck of a classic boat, the shoreline, or alongside the fleet, watching these historic boats sail at full tilt is an unforgettable experience. Here are some of the best ways to catch the action and immerse yourself in this Chesapeake Bay tradition.

Charter a Boat with CBMM

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum offers private charters aboard their classic boats — a great way to experience the races up close.

Dates Available: June 29 and 30, July 27 and 28, and Sept. 7, 8, 14, and 15

Cost: $375 for a two-hour cruise

CBMM Member Discount: 20% off

On-Shore Viewing

Depending on the location of the racecourse, some areas may offer good on-shore viewing opportunities.
 

Check with the sponsoring yacht clubs to see if they offer onshore viewing opportunities or if members might be taking guests aboard for the races.

Miles River Yacht Club

Located in St. Michaels, MD, has a rich history of hosting log canoe races, with events dating back to 1840.

Tred Avon Yacht Club

Tred Avon Yacht Club, founded in 1931 and located in Oxford Maryland, is a storied sailing and boating community with a strong family atmosphere.

Cambridge Yacht Club

Cambridge Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club on the Eastern Shore boasting a rich history of racing, sailing, and camaraderie.

Sail Aboard the Selina II

Captain Iris Robertson’s 41-foot catboat, Selina II, gets you thrillingly close to the action — just outside the race boundary lines.

Options:

Regular cruise: ~ $125 per person

Private charter: $550 for the entire boat
